Year’rounder House is an entirely new, yet highly contextual prototype dwelling for Wellfleet. Year’rounder House draws on the two vernaculars of the Outer Cape – the traditional, gabled Cape house and the mid-twentieth century Modernist shed type house – and filters them through today’s best practices in construction technology, affordability, and environmental sustainability. As an accessory dwelling on an existing lot between Pine Point Road and Pine Point Way, Year’rounder House is oriented to maintain views of Wellfleet Harbor from existing houses, while maximizing its own views to the water. This positioning also sets up the house’s environmental strategy, with the south face open to capture the most possible energy from the winter sun. Access to this location of Year’rounder House is separate from that of its host lot, allowing the lot’s owner and accessory occupant to coexist independently.
